چکیده

Regional reconstructions of air temperature over the past millennium provide critical context for ongoing climate change, but they are temporally limited in recent period or absent many parts world. We demonstrate use latewood blue intensity (LWB) to reconstruct current-year growing (warm) season maximum temperatures (Tmax) low-to-mid latitudes (30°-50°N) western North America. present a new tree ring network comprised 26 LWB chronologies developed from living, high-elevation Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii Parry ex Engelm.) sampled across United States. The parameter shows strong, positive (r = 0.65–0.73), and temporally-stable correlations with Tmax. From this we 4 regional Tmax reconstructions, which characterize histories America northern Mexico southern British Columbia centuries. Our comparison these highlights spatial patterns trends throughout time. These important updates increased data point density proxy Northern Hemisphere. highlight methods at both low- mid-latitude upper line locations increase presence strongly temperature-sensitive records increasingly lower

Tree-Ring Based May-July Temperature Reconstruction Since AD 1630 on the Western Loess Plateau, China

Tree-ring samples from Chinese Pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) collected at Mt. Shimen on the western Loess Plateau, China, were used to reconstruct the mean May-July temperature during AD 1630-2011. The regression model explained 48% of the adjusted variance in the instrumentally observed mean May-July temperature. The reconstruction revealed significant temperature variations at interannual ...

Decadal Variability of Precipitation over Western North America

Decadal (.7yr period) variations of precipitation over western North America account for 20%–50% of the variance of annual precipitation. Spatially, the decadal variability is broken into several regional [O(1000 km)] components. These decadal variations are contributed by fluctuations in precipitation from seasons of the year that vary from region to region and that are not necessarily concent...

A 400-year tree-ring chronology from the tropical treeline of North America.

High-elevation sites in the tropics may be particularly sensitive to rapid climate change. By sampling treeline populations, I have developed the first extensive (> 300 years) tree-ring chronology in tropical North America. The site is Nevado de Colima, at the western end of the Mexican Neovolcanic Belt, and the species studied is Mexican mountain pine (Pinus hartwegii). Despite past logging in...

Performance of salmon fishery portfolios across western North America

Quantifying the variability in the delivery of ecosystem services across the landscape can be used to set appropriate management targets, evaluate resilience and target conservation efforts. Ecosystem functions and services may exhibit portfolio-type dynamics, whereby diversity within lower levels promotes stability at more aggregated levels. Portfolio theory provides a framework to characteriz...
